Late in the afternoon of Friday, September 1, 2006, U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins, presiding from a federal courtroom in Tucson, Arizona, dismissed all charges against Shanti Sellz and Daniel Strauss, two volunteers with the Tucson No More Deaths Coalition, a faith- and community-based alliance.
Multifaith Voices for Peace And Justice has been following their story and advocating on their behalf for many months now. This is a major victory for decency and fairness and reminds us that our hearts must be ruled by compassion for others, not fear OF the others. Below is a story written about these two volunteers and how they faced prosecution for helping to save the lives of three dying migrants. |

Representative Tom Lantos was arrested today, while commiting an act of civil disobedience, blocking the entrance to the Sudanese Embassy. Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice has actively been working with Congressman Lantos' office, encouraging him to take a leadership role promoting UN/NATO action to stop the genocide in Darfur.
Today's arrest demonstrates that our voices are being heard! Read the story from the San Francicso Chronicle: |

Imagine showing up for worship and having this message come from the pulpit: "The Internal Revenue Service has notified All Saints church that we are being examined for possible violation of our non-profit status. The IRS’s charge is campaign intervention. They have cited a sermon that our rector emeritus, George Regas, preached on the Sunday before the last presidential election. We have engaged a Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in these matters."

Please join the Global Week of Giving, November 21 to 27 to help the victims of the October Earthquake in Asia. Through Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice, American Muslim Voice asks the community to join them in making personal, sacrificial gifts for relief of the earthquake victims in Pakistan, Kashmir, and India. You are invited to make some small (or big!) changes in your Thanksgiving celebrations and donate the money saved to the cause of earthquake relief.
The week will begin with an overnight vigil at Palo Alto City Hall Plaza beginning at 9pm Tuesday, November 22 and concluding with a press conference at 11am Wednesday, November 23rd. You are invited to join in the vigil for whatever time you are able. Please bring warm clothes and if you plan to spend the night, sleeping bags and tents would help keep you even more comfy through the night.
