Honor the Dead, Love the Living Interfaith Public Memorial and Procession

to honor Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastian Guerrero, Jesús Manuel Arenas-Silva, and the many lives recently lost at the hands of ICE. At the same time, we lift up people in California who have survived similar brutal attacks: Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, Ulises Pena Lopez, and all people currently in ICE detention, in particular those detained in California City CoreCivic and their campaign for Hugs Beyond Bars.

Program Schedule and Locations:

• 11 AM – An Interfaith Public Memorial will be held at 630 Sansome St., San Francisco, to commemorate and pay tribute to individuals who have lost their lives due to the actions of ICE. Please wear black.

• 12 PM – A procession will commence to 333 Bush St., San Francisco, to the offices of Sen. Padilla, aimed at uplifting and supporting those who remain affected by ICE, along with the delivery of the Hugs Beyond Bars Petition.

This gathering is held in solidarity with the vigils which have taken place across the country.

We mourn the deaths of Johan Sebastian Guerrero, 26, who was fatally shot by ICE in Maine on July 13, and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, who was shot in Texas on July 7 and many others. We extend our prayer and deepest condolences to their families, friends, and communities.

We also call attention and will hear from family members searching for justice for Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez and Ulises Pena Lopez – as they struggle with the ongoing impacts of serious injury and criminalization by ICE. We elevate the cries for the basic right to hug at the California City ICE Detention Center, where people detained are denied in-person contact visits with their loved ones in violation of ICE detention standards. Families travel long distances only to be separated by glass, unable to embrace children, parents, or spouses.

Families of those whose loved ones are detained will be delivering this petition with over 1100 signatories. Please add your name, sign and share the petition calling on ICE and CoreCivic to allow contact visits at California City Detention Center. Petition signatures will be delivered to local, state, and federal officials.
