ACTION ALERT:
If a detention center opens anywhere in the area, there will be more ICE raids, kidnappings and detentions in the bay area and across northern California.
The Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, CA (FCI Dublin) is a former federal women’s prison that was shut down in 2024, following years of horrific staff sexual abuse and brave organizing by survivors. The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has announced plans to transfer the FCI Dublin property in a way that will likely lead to ICE or another agency reopening the prison for immigration detention. Stopping this before it happens is HUGELY IMPORTANT.
On Friday, May 1, the BOP published an environmental assessment, a necessary step in the property transfer process. The assessment shows what FCI Dublin survivors have been saying for years: the FCI Dublin facility is unsafe and uninhabitable, and would cost tens of millions of dollars to repair.
The public now has 30 days, UNTIL JUNE 1, to provide feedback on BOP’s plan. The ICE Out of Dublin Coalition (a strong coalition of community and faith organizations) is asking our community to submit public comments and tell the BOP: keep FCI Dublin closed, and keep ICE out of Dublin!
Here’s what you can do:
1. Use the ICE Out of Dublin Coalition Toolkit to submit public comment. You can also submit through the Action Network letter campaign.
Yes, it takes some attention and time (15 mins or so) to do this, but it is worth it. Literally, our immigrant neighbors’ lives depend on this.
2. Submit individually AND as an organization. Congregations can submit Public Comment too!
3. Since this is federal property, anyone living in the U.S. can submit a Public Comment.
