The Rapid Response Network of the Santa Clara County will be hosting a gathering for local immigrant families whose loved ones have been detained by ICE or other federal agencies in the past several months. The emotional toll of the detention or deportation of someone in your family is enormous, and it also brings severe economic burdens. This is particularly true if the person taken was the breadwinner, as is often true. Legal support, child care needs, emotional trauma, and other factors all put a huge strain on the family budget.

Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice wants to add a gift
to show our community care and solidarity
by providing grocery gift cards for each family.

Here’s how you can join in this effort to show we love and care for each other:
1. Purchase Safeway grocery gift cards (or Albertsons Companies Gift Cards as they are sometimes called), each in the amount of $25. Every gift card will go directly to a family. (Feel free to buy more than 1, but every one will help!) These grocery gifts cards are available at most Safeway stores, and can also be purchased online (see below).
2. Invite your faith congregation, friends, family or neighborhood to get involved! Collect money and go buy lots of cards – again, each for the amount of $25.
3. Make a financial contribution toward the purchase of grocery gift cards. Checks for this effort should be made out to “First Presbyterian Church/MVPJ” with “grocery card effort” in the memo.

We need all cards and financial contributions by Wednesday, Nov 12.

DROP OFF cards or financial contributions off at First Congregational Church, 1985 Louis Road, Palo Alto, during office hours 9am-12:30pm & 1:30-3pm. Please put these in an envelope marked “Grocery Gift Cards.”

IMPORTANT: It is important that each card be for exactly $25 so we can distribute cards equally among families.
