Mother of Mother's Day - Greeting Cards for Peace

Julia Ward Howe

In 1870 Mother's Day was instituted by Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation.  Ward called for
all women who have hearts

to join with the voice of a devastated earth
and say: Disarm!  Disarm!
Let women then solemnly take counsel with each other
as to the means whereby
the great human family can live in peace.

These all occasion cards make great Mother's Day Cards OR
a pack of 6 makes an awesome Mother's Day GIFT!

Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice commissioned the cards. They are being sold in many local congregations, or can be ordered online from our website (click "read more" below).  Art by Design Action, printed on recycled paper with soy inks by Inkworks Press, a worker-owned cooperative union shop, and distributed by Reach And Teach, a local peace and social justice learning company, the cards can be used to carry their profound message all year long.  (To sell them in your own community, email craig@reachandteach.com.)

Why not buy a few extra and send them as Mother's Day greetings to women such as our First Lady, Secretary of State, Senators, or local Congresswomen?

Multifaith Vigil: Defend Civil Rights for Everyone!

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Candlelight Vigil in Defense of the Bill of Rights!
PROTEST INDEFINITE MILITARY DETENTION WITHOUT TRIAL!
Thursday, December 15, 5-6pm
Lytton Plaza in downtown Palo Alto

Our Bill of Rights was adopted on December 15, 1791, and in 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt declared December 15 "Bill of Rights Day." Recently passed legislation (see article below) threaten those rights - allowing for indefinite military detention of anyone (including U.S. citizens) without trial.

Stand together for the right to trial, separation of powers and presumption of innocence this Thursday evening, 5-6pm at Lytton Plaza. We must speak out loudly and clearly against such action!

JOIN US for songs, prayers and speakers. SPREAD THE WORD!

URGENT ACTION: Stop Indefinite Detention without a Trial!

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The National Defense Authorization Act 2012 (NDAA), passed by the Senate and House and now on its way to the White House includes detention provisions that allow for indefinite military detention of anyone, including U.S. citizens, without charges, court review, or a trial and make it more difficult to close the prison at Guatanamo Bay.

The President needs to hear from us to have the courage to say "No!" to this alarming legislation.
CALL AND EMAIL PRESIDENT OBAMA TODAY and urge him to veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

EMAIL: With the help of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, it takes less than 1 minute.  Just click here to send your email now!

Call 202-456-1111, and simply say, "I urge President Obama to veto the National Defense Authorization Act.  We must not pass legislation allowing indefinite detention and making it more difficult to close Guatanamo."

Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice is working with the Muslim Peace Coalition Bill of Rights Defense Committee (BORDC), National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Center for Victims of Torture, and American Muslim Voice to raise awareness of this issue.
