Notes of Friendship and Solidarity to Local Mosques and Islamic Centers

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Send notes of encouragement and peace to your local mosques and Islamic centers. This simple yet beautiful idea comes from the Shoulder-to-Shoulder Campaign.  Be creative!  Invite children in your community of faith or your neighborhood to write letters, too, and draw pictures of friendship and love. Consider indicating on the outside of the envelope that yours is a message of kindness and support.

Multifaith Service of Concern and Commitment
Thursday, January 19th, 7-8:30pm

Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto, 505 E. Charleston, 94306

On this evening prior to the presidential inauguration, we will come together -- across many religious and spiritual traditions -- to voice our concerns and fears about the coming four years in our country, to pray for strength and wisdom for the years ahead, and to commit together to act for justice, compassion, peace, environmental protection and equality for the American society and the world. We will share music, readings, prayers, silence and wisdom from many traditions to offer guidance, inspiration and courage, and to strengthen the bounds of our beautiful diverse community.

People of all faith traditions and those of no particular faith are all welcome.

Visit our Facebook page (or use https://www.facebook.com/events/425173557814696/ ) and share/invite others!

A Quaker Meeting Called with a Concern for the Future of our Country
Saturday, January 7, 11am
Lytton Plaza, 202 University at Emerson, Palo Alto

See more photos of the Public Meeting by clicking on "read more" below.

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), a traditional Peace Church, offers to the community an opportunity to listen deeply and humbly to each other and to the Spirit which guides human affairs. For an hour, we will settle into the silence of worship as practiced by Quakers, wherein anyone moved by the Spirit may rise to speak.

It is the silent waiting for the urging of the Spirit which is the foundation Friends' testimonies on Peace, Unity, Simplicity, Equality, Community and Integrity. Social Action based on these testimonies is strengthened by arising from worshipful silence.

Standing in solidarity with our immigrant sisters and brothers, Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice encourages efforts to become Sanctuary churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and campuses.

Offering sanctuary - a safe place that honors dignity and worth - is a tradition drawn from many of our faiths.

Local communities of all faiths can be sanctuary congregations. If you are interested in learning what it means to become a sanctuary congregation for your own place of worship, visit the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity website, or contact us by emailing info@multifaithpeace.org

Evergreen Islamic Center Hour of Prayer & Solidarity

Several hundred people gathered in prayer and solidarity with the Evergreen Islamic Center (EIC) on Sunday, December 11.  The event was filled with love and joy.  Featured speakers included leaders from diverse faith traditions as well as elected representatives from the city of San Jose and State Assembly and Senate.  People of all faiths and walks of life felt called to offer their support.

The community came together at the invitation of the EIC after the mosque received some hate mail.  Clearly we say "no" to hate and "yes" to all that holds us together as sisters and brothers in the human family.  We stood shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity with one another in a powerful expression of love and commitment.
