"Avoiding Needless Wars" Lecture by Dr. Martin Hellman

When: Tuesday, September 23 2014 @ 07:00 pm - - 08:30pm
Event Type: Sponsored Events
Contact:
Where: Los Altos Library
13 S. San Antonia Road
Los Altos 94022
Description: Lecture by Dr. Martin Hellman, Professor Emeritus, Stanford University.

"Professor Hellman will give a current assessment of the major hotspots in the world and fresh ideas on how further needless violence could be avoided. ... He explains that the threat posed by nuclear weapons is symptomatic of a larger problem which underlies all of the major threats we face, including global warming. The problem is the chasm between our god-like physical power - the ability to create new life forms and the ability to destroy civilization - and our maturity level as a species, which is, at best, that of an irresponsible adolescent" (quote from Barbara Kyser of Los Altos Voices for Peace).

The event is sponsored by the Los Altos Public Library, and co-sponsored by MVPJ and other local groups.
