The Muslim Cohort of the Community of Living Traditions is hosting an online discussion: The Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center welcomes you to join us for a panel discussion with Muslim activists about what it means to be Muslim and fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the world has swiftly changed beyond recognition, participants are invited to join a conversation on challenges, opportunities and insights the pandemic presents — as Muslims, as activists, and as global citizens. How does Islam teach us to interpret and respond to the pandemic as a Sign from Allah? What are the spiritual tests to be gleaned if we are to evolve as one inextricably linked human family sharing one planet, rather than face extinction? Facilitated by Susan Smith, Fellowship of Reconciliation's Director of Operations, the panel will include: Chaplain Rabia Terri Harris, Muslim scholar and founder of the Muslim Peace Fellowship; Sherly Fabre, Haitian American Muslim and International Fellowship of Reconciliation's representative to the United Nations; and Muriyd "Two Clouds" VanDunk-Williams, third-generation Muslim and member of the Ramapough Lunaape Indian nation. The panel will look at intersectional issues and movements for justice and peace, community building, mutual aid, and the need for global transformation through the spiritual and textual lens of Islam. |
