Wednesday, July 12, 12noon-12:45pm In a time of political and economic polarization, acknowledging the underlying humanity of those who differ in opinion and behavior requires more than toleration; we seek a sense of mutual kinship that crosses such barriers. Please join us. This will be a Quaker silent worship as a public demonstration of our moral values. Parking is available on Vinyard Blvd, 1/2 block away. (This location is signed "No parking," but police indicate it is OK for one hour.) Click here for goggle map. Plan on standing for worship and being in the hot sum. There will be a limited number of stools available. Hats, sunscreen and water recommended. Optional lunch afterwards at Betsy's Restuarant, 50 Tennant Station, Morgan Hill, 95037. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is an agency that has been widely cited for human rights violations, skirting regulations, and secretive and adversarial community relations. ICE influence in California is widespread and pernicious. Many California local law enforcement organizations refuse to cooperate with ICE programs of detention and deportation of immigrants. The Trump administration has directed this agency to carry out more extreme actions than previously. The Morgan Hill facility was established in September 2016, and has since indicated to the City of Morgan Hill an intent to add an unspecified number of "holding rooms,” against the community's wishes and current zoning. We intend to bring attention to the unwanted presence of this facility in Morgan Hill, its shadowy presence and unknown actions that harm primarily residents of color in our South Bay community, and our deep disapproval of the extra-legal and injurious actions we believe are directed and take place here. Our presence, as a lawful, respectful, and worshipful gathering, is intended to make this statement. All are welcome to attend and stand with us, whatever religion – or none at all. |
